The Financial Times discusses the consequences of the private dinner in Corfu between George Osborne, Peter Mandelson and Oleg Deripaska. The newspaper reports that Osborne confessed to making a «mistake» and accepted that in the future it would be «appropriate» for him to step back from Conservative party fundraising efforts in order to avoid any perceived conflicts of interest. After admitting to his own errors of judgment, Osborne attempted to turn attention on Lord Mandelson, the business secretary who also enjoyed the hospitality of Deripaska, by calling on him to be “open.” Mandelson commented to the Financial Times that he would not hesitate to see Deripaska again while working on her majesty’s service.
