September 14, 2008

The Institute of Contemporary Development held a meeting of its Board of Directors in order to discuss trends in development, problems and prospects.

The meeting was chaired by Igor Yurgens, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Contemporary Development. Participants included Elvira Nabiullina, the RF Minister of Economic Development, Leonid Reiman, the Adviser to the RF President, Dmitry Milovantsev, Deputy Chairman of the Board, Prof. Yevgeny Gontmacher, Head of the Center for Social Policy, and others.

During the discussion, E. Nabiullina emphasized that the country needs an independent center in order to address decisions important to Russia, which require a thorough expert assessment. In connection with this, the Minister of Economic Development suggested that INSOR should be actively involved in such activities, which include not only discussions on various issues but also a thorough assessment and elaboration of important concepts.

L. Reiman also noted the need to harmonize the views of business, government, science and society, as well as the need to organize close cooperation between them more effectively. "The Institute will not lose the value that it acquired over the course of several years; conversely, it will live up to the new expectations," said the Adviser to President RF.

The meeting moved to nominate Lev Yakobson, the Vice-Rector of the State University - Higher School of Economics, to the INSOR Board of Directors.
